Discography- Spirit
|
Jewel's highly-anticipated second album SPIRIT is in stores since November 17th, 1998.
The album is Jewel's acclaimed first new release since her multi-platinum 1995 debut, PIECES OF YOU. All thirteen songs on the
album were written by Jewel with the exception of the first single, 'Hands,' which was co-written with producer Patrick Leonard (best known for
his work with Madonna). 'Hands' was widely played in the US, having received 1, 800 spins in less than a week. |
SPIRIT was recorded in the earliest 1998 at Groove Masters in Santa Monica, CA, and at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood. The album sees Jewel accompanied
by a core group of both session musicians and fellow singer/songwriters. Among them are Jude Cole on acoustic guitar, Ednaswap bassist Paul
Bushnell, vetran Afro-Cuban jazz percussionist Luis Conte, and drummer Brian Macleod. Flea, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, also appears in SPIRIT, featuring in the song 'Barcelona'.
The songs in SPIRIT are quite different to the ones of PIECES OF YOU, in the way that Jewel is mostly accompained by her band.
But its songs still possess a stark honesty, accompained with profound messages embodied in poetry and true stories that touch intimately
and show you the core of what makes us pure human beings.
'I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this record and what I wanted it to do to people,' Jewel told Billboard. 'I wanted to
write a record that was the antidote to all the things which made me worry in the world, so that it's comforting somehow.'
